I stubbled across this show by sheer luck and once I began my journey that is "A Different World" there was no going back. I was scrolling down my Tumblr feed and someone posted in all caps with a picture stating that A Different World is on Netflix. At first the title seemed familiar but I was not sure where I heard about this show. Then I recalled my mum mentioned some shows she used to watch when she was in college and this was one of them!
Let me give you some backstory to what this show is about. It is set at a historically Black university and it tackles serious issues although not in the way that it makes the viewer feel uncomfortable or angry with the way the world works. Most importantly it is about college students and what they deal with. Each character brings something unique to the show because they are all drastically different in the most hilarious way. The show also has some unexpected guest star appearances and some of todays famous celebs got their start from A Different World. Halle Berry, Whoopi Goldberg, Tupac Shakur are just a few from a list of many. Even Phill Lewis (Mr Moseby from Suite Life of Zack & Cody) I was shocked to see him with hair haha those where his younger days.
Ohhh and don't get me started about the fashion! Even though this show was in the late 80's and early 90's I could wear most of these outfits from head to toe... well... I'll have to leave the shoulder pads and box suits behind but everything else is up for grabs. This show helped me become more socially aware. They need to bring it back but with new students going to the same fictional college (Hillman) and set in todays world. It could cover the same topics with similar characters. While typing I am getting ridiculously excited! That would be amazing. Who do I talk to so I can make it a reality? haha
