It all started in the eastern part of Africa more specifically Nairobi, Kenya then after two seasons later moving to the west, Lagos Nigeria. Shuga is a show that highlights the social scene of young africans in big cities.
Shuga is also very educational and according to Staying Alive Foundation, "Shuga is a ground-breaking 360-degree mass-media behaviour-change campaign that aims to improve the sexual and reproductive health of young people."
Shuga started of has an educational campaign although over time has grown to become one of the best TV shows based in Africa. The message is very important through the series although it touches on various topics that young people experience. Through social media Shuga reaches people even outside the continent and reaches viewers all over the world. An example of this is little ol' me. I school in the U.S. and so do my most of my friends but we all watch Shuga and can relate even though we are not in Africa. All the episodes are available online so I urge you to give it a chance and enjoy the wonderful production that is Shuga. Ohh! I almost forgot to mention this is one of the first acting gigs that gave Lupita Nyong'o her start and lead her on her way to stardom.
